Why Watermark Your Documents

Watermarks serve two purposes: deterring unauthorized use and communicating document status. A company name watermark makes it obvious where the document originated. A 'DRAFT' watermark prevents someone from treating a preliminary version as final.

Opacity matters. Too strong and the watermark obscures content. Too faint and it's pointless. The default 30% opacity is the sweet spot for most documents — clearly visible without making text hard to read. You can adjust from 10% (barely there) to 90% (dominant).

The watermark is rendered as a translucent text layer over the existing content. It can't be removed by simply selecting and deleting text — it's embedded into the page rendering. For true security, combine watermarking with PDF permission restrictions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can someone remove the watermark?

Not easily. The watermark is rendered into the page content, not as a separate removable layer. Determined users with professional tools could potentially redact it, but casual removal isn't possible.

Can I use an image as a watermark instead of text?

Currently the tool supports text watermarks only. For logo watermarks, you'd need a desktop PDF editor like Adobe Acrobat.

Will the watermark appear when printing?

Yes. The watermark is part of the page content, so it prints exactly as it appears on screen.
